Tall Fescue (Festuca arundinacea) is a cool-season,deep-rooted bunchgrass known for its year-round green colour, droughtresistance, resistance to chewing and biting insects, and robust weartolerance. It is widely used for residential lawns, and landscaping across temperate regions of New Zealand.

Benefits of Tall Fescue

  • Stays green year-round – Irrigation recommended in summer
  • Excellent drought tolerance among cool-season grasses
  • Deep rooting = less frequent watering over other cool season varieties
  • Good shade tolerance for mixed light conditions
  • Low thatch build-up and reduced pest/disease risk
  • Family and pet friendly

Considerations

  • Non-spreading
  • Not self-repairing
  • Can become coarse if not mown regularly
