Common Kikuyu

Common Kikuyu (Pennisetum clandestinum) is a vigorous, warm-season perennial grass known for its rapid growth, resilience, and low-cost maintenance. Originally native to East Africa, it has become one of the most common grass types in coastal and northern New Zealand, especially in high-wear and low-maintenance areas.

• Discolours in Winter months
• Invasive growth – will spread into garden beds and hardscape unless physically     contained
• Coarse texture – not as soft or refined as hybrid couch or tall fescue
• Poor performance in shaded conditions – avoid under trees or beside tall     structures
• Availabe November to May
